"I create art for the same reason that I breath...I have to"

Who is Barbara?

Barbara Chambers, an extraordinary talent in the world of contemporary art, traces her origins to the bustling borough of Queens, New York. Her early years were anything but conventional. At the tender age of six, Barbara's family embarked on a peripatetic journey, effectively raising her and her siblings in a car. This nomadic lifestyle took them across every state in the U.S., where they cooked in nearly every national park, imbuing young Barbara with a profound connection to nature and a unique perspective shaped by the ceaselessly changing landscapes.
The seeds of Barbara's artistic calling were sown early. Although she recalls creating art from her earliest memories, it was at the age of ten that she truly knew her path, a realization solidified when she received her first paint set. Artistry ran in her blood, a familial trait inherited from both her paternal and maternal sides, including her grandfather and father, who were also artists.
Barbara's formal education in the arts is as varied as her upbringing. She delved into fine art and graphic design studies, eventually earning a degree in photography. Her journey post-graduation led her to work as a technical illustrator. However, the complexities of motherhood shifted her career path into managerial roles across various industries. Yet, the call of art was relentless, guiding her back to creative endeavors, where she tapped into her intrinsic wellspring of nature and surroundings for inspiration.
Her approach to subject matter is almost serendipitous. Barbara describes it as an organic process, one that evolves from listening to her inner thoughts and observing the world around her. Her creative process is fluid; she allows ideas to gestate before intuitively starting to paint, letting the work develop freely. Years of experimenting with different mediums and subjects, combined with daily practice, have honed her technique into something uniquely her own.
Barbara's pieces stand out for their individuality and personal resonance—no two works are alike, each one springing from her vivid imagination and personality. Among her extensive portfolio, her "Follies" series holds a special place in her heart. The lightheartedness, vibrant color palette, and the positive emotional responses it elicits from viewers have made it particularly rewarding.
She is actively involved in several art organizations, including the Christian Ladies Art Studies, Cookeville Art Studio and Gallery, and Art Round Tennessee, which provide a platform for community engagement and artistic exchange.
Barbara's work has been featured in notable exhibitions such as First Friday and Art Prowl. She is currently showcasing her art at venues like The French Market and Randall Wallace CPA. Her art resonates with collectors, with several individuals purchasing multiple pieces. The feedback she receives—a testament to the impact of her work—often highlights its beauty, emotional depth, and thought-provoking nature.
Beyond the canvas, Barbara is passionate about hiking, animal welfare, and her church community. Her art echoes her values and beliefs, aiming to reflect the inherent beauty and complexity of nature. She aspires to have her work displayed in multiple galleries and to continue teaching live classes, sharing her knowledge and passion with emerging artists.
Barbara Chambers profoundly believes in the transformative power of art in society. Her journey, marked by a blend of perseverance, adaptability, and unwavering connection to her roots, makes her a compelling figure in the art world whose works continue to inspire and captivate audiences.
